It's approaching 8 years since I joined Hyperion Search and when I look back at what's made the journey so enjoyable and rewarding, it isn't just the results we've achieved, the clients we've partnered with or the markets we've helped shape.

It's the people.

Over the years we've worked hard to build a business where people are trusted, supported, challenged and recognised for the contribution they make. A place where individuals can be ambitious, enjoy what they do and know that the people around them genuinely want them to succeed.

What do I love most about my team?

Without a doubt, it's the way we look after each other.

For over 12 years, we've been building our reputation as a specialist search partner to the cleantech and renewable energy sectors., and whilst plenty has changed during that time, one thing has remained constant...

When things get hectic, everyone leans in.

People play to their strengths, back each other, share the load and genuinely want to see the person next to them succeed. The phrase "that's not my job" does not exist here. Ego’s don’t either. We are a small group of people all pulling in the same direction.

It's the same during the tougher periods too. We dig in, support each other and keep moving forward together.

And when things go well, we make sure we celebrate.

Last quarter was our best in three years, so we took the team out in Liverpool for a brilliant day and night together. We always try to recognise individual performances, but the bigger celebrations are for everyone. Success is a team sport and some of the best moments come from seeing people genuinely proud of each other's achievements.

Recognition isn't always about the numbers either. Recently, one of our team narrowly missed out on hitting a quarterly commission threshold. But we also recognised the effort, commitment and value he'd brought to the business throughout the quarter, so we looked after him anyway.

For me, that's what being part of a team is about. Rewarding outcomes matters, but recognising hard work, character and contribution matters just as much.

Supporting each other beyond work

What really stands out though is the support we give each other.

My daughter was poorly last week and, despite a week of broken sleep, it was made much easier as I was able to focus on being a dad when I needed to. I could step away, dip back in when I could, and therewere no questions asked because that's the culture we've built

Team first is one of our core values, and it's not something that just sits on a website or a meeting room wall. We live it every day.

We work hard. We care. We support each other. We celebrate together.

And that's what I love most about my team.
