Non-Executive Director - iwell

Location IconEurope

iwell is seeking to appoint a new Non-Executive Director (NED) to join its Supervisory Board. This is a critical appointment at a key inflection point in the company's journey; from an energy storage hardware provider to a software-led, integrated solutions company. The ideal candidate will bring relevant experience in software product development, digital transformation, and scaling B2B tech businesses internationally, while also contributing to a diverse, collaborative, and future-focused board.

Role Purpose

As a member of the Supervisory Board, the NED will support the iwell leadership team through strategic guidance, critical thinking, and pattern-recognition-based insights. They will act as a sparring partner to the management board, contributing to product, growth, and commercial strategy without crossing into operational decision-making. This is a hands-on, engaged role designed to add value, not prestige.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic oversight and challenge to the management team, particularly in product development and international expansion.
  • Leverage experience scaling B2B SaaS or hybrid software-hardware companies across multiple markets.
  • Support iwell's transition from a hardware-centric model to a software-led business model, while recognising the complexity of integrated offerings.
  • Act as an advisor-contributing constructively, speaking when it adds value, and not dominating in crowded board meetings.
  • Help maintain a healthy, low-ego, collaborative boardroom dynamic.

Candidate Profile

We are seeking a candidate who brings a mix of experience, mindset, and personality that complements the current board and leadership team.

Essential Experience & Skills

  • Significant experience in software or product-led businesses, ideally in SaaS or digital platforms connected to hardware or infrastructure.
  • International scaling experience-successfully building market presence and operational capability in new geographies.
  • Commercial acumen-ideally with P&L responsibility or exit experience (e.g. trade sale or strategic buyer).
  • Experience interacting with or sitting on Supervisory Boards (formal board experience preferred, but not essential).

Desirable Attributes

  • Strong personal integrity, humility, and high emotional intelligence.
  • Ability to challenge and contribute constructively in a non-dominant way-particularly in an already high-personality board.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with pattern recognition across scaling journeys.
  • Multicultural awareness and cultural adaptability-Dutch cultural fluency or sensitivity is a plus.

Diversity & Location

We warmly welcome candidates from a range of backgrounds and experiences. We are particularly keen to broaden the diversity of our board-this includes, but is not limited to, gender, ethnicity, nationality, and career path. While we encourage applications from across Europe, we have a slight preference for those based in mainland Europe-especially Germany, Spain, or Italy-due to current board composition and ease of travel to Utrecht for meetings. Candidates from the UK or US are also welcome to apply, though regular in-person participation will be an important consideration.

Terms & Commitment

  • The appointment is for an initial four-year term, renewable in accordance with the Supervisory Board's guidelines.
  • Board meetings are held quarterly in person (Utrecht), with occasional ad hoc sessions.
  • Expected time commitment: ~15-24 days per year.
