EVP Battery Science / Chief Scientific Officer - Germany

Location IconGermany

Our client, a rapidly scaling European energy‑storage company is seeking an EVP Battery Science / Chief Scientific Officer to define and lead the electrochemical foundations of its next‑generation long‑duration storage platform. The company has developed a differentiated, non‑lithium battery technology designed for safety, sustainability, and industrial‑scale deployment across grid, commercial, and infrastructure applications. With strong funding, industrial partners, and a large in‑house R&D organisation, the business is now moving decisively from scientific breakthrough to large‑scale commercial impact.

This executive will own the scientific and electrochemical strategy of the organisation, setting the roadmap for redox chemistry, electrolytes, interfaces, membranes, degradation modelling, and lifetime performance. Working as a core member of the executive team, the role bridges deep science with real‑world systems, ensuring molecular and electrochemical innovation translates into manufacturable, reliable, and cost‑effective products. The position offers significant freedom to shape materials strategy, external collaborations, and IP, while working closely with product, engineering, and operations teams.

The ideal candidate is a globally credible electrochemistry leader with a PhD and a strong track record of taking battery or electrochemical technologies from lab to pilot and industrial scale. Experience in leading large scientific teams and engaging confidently with partners, investors, and boards is essential. This is a rare opportunity to define a new chemistry platform with the potential to underpin the energy transition for decades to come.
